Scholarships
SCHOLARSHIP HISTORY:
TFWC was four years old in November 1901 when the clubwomen launched their first fund-raising drive to establish a scholarship for a student who would live in the new Woman’s Building at the University of Texas. TFWC had worked in support of legislation for the $50,000.00 appropriation for this building.
The goal of $3,500.00 was reached, and in November 1903, at the close of the Pennybacker administration, the fund was placed at the University of Texas. The TFWC Scholarship known as the “1903 Scholarship” was accepted by the Board of Regents, The University of Texas, Austin, March 18, 1904, in the amount of $3,500.00. The fund is invested by the University through its regular investment program.

SCHOLARSHIP HISTORY:
The Penny Art Fund originated in the New Jersey Federation in 1919. It was adopted by GFWC in 1930, and later adopted by TFWC. Its aim was to enrich life through the development of appreciation for art and to assist students with artistic talents. The original plan was that each club member would contribute one penny or more each year.
The Musical Penny Scholarship: In 1943, a resolution was introduced to establish a fund to be known as the “Musical Penny Fund” for the purpose of building a music scholarship.
In September 2019, the TFWC Scholarship Committee combined the Penny Arts Fund and Musical Penny Scholarships into one TWC Fine Arts Scholarship to cover varying forms of art.
